Hi Benjamin, There are a few places but all of them are difficult to approach and you will need a boat. www.climbincrete.com |

Hi Stelios, we would like to come to Crete in october. We will climb in the Agiofarago beautiful route. Maybe there is some cave along the seacliff ? Can we find a boat easily at Agiofarago ? Thanks for your response.

Post subject: Sea cave climbing
There isn't any cave near Agiofarago as far as I'm aware but you can do some deep water climbing in Vourvoulitis area near Agiofarago. You don't need a boat for this. Ask any local when you'll go there how to go to Vourvoulitis. There isn't any boat rental near Agiofarago. Only at Kalous Limenes there are some boats but need to contact with locals which is not something easy even for us to find them. www.climbincrete.com |

Post subject: Last informations...
Thanks again for these helpful tips Actually, we are thinking our trip this way:
We haven't define many thing so far since we depend on our legs and bus, and we are wondering if there is any way to get food and water in a close nearaby (2hours)
Meanwhile, I had a look on the E4, and it seems that the nicest part is from Elafonissi to Frangokastello. What do you think?
Hope I don't overwhelm you with all this questions :) σας ευχαριστώ!é |

Post subject: Hiking trip
You need to seriously think of getting a geography class! Public transport in Greece and especially in Crete sucks. It's ok only to move between the well known big cities. E4 path from Palaioxora to Elafonisi is great and need just a couple of hours to do it (around 3-4). You can do a much bigger trekking from Sougia to Agia Roumeli. You will need either a guide or a GPS with local maps on it for easier navigation. Water is the key in this route. At least 4lt per person. Cheers www.climbincrete.com |

Post subject: Indeed...
Hahaha! Indeed, I must admit that I don't know that much about Crete and the way to go through it :p Fortunately there is people like you! So, I've watched more closely a map, listend your advices and I think we'll take the bus from Heraklion up to Agia Galini, and start the hiking trip there (3-4 days), till Agiofarago, stay 4 days there for climbing and hiking, and going back to Matala to take the bus and return Heraklion the last day. This seems much more feasable according to what you previously said. We shouldn't need a car if we do so. Well, there is one last thing I'm wondering. Do you know if it is really dangerous to hike out of the track and folow the coastline instead (with a GPS, great map and good shoes of course). PS: You said that the temperature is about 40°. Is that still true in October?!?!? At least the water should be warm :)

Post subject: Messara hiking Climbing
Hi BenjiClimber, The area that you are going to visit (called Messara) is maybe the hotest in Crete. Even during October sometimes the temperature is around 30oC. Having said that, it is much much better than earlier months. You can hike anywhere in Crete without been dangerous but that depends how well you know to read a map and your experience in the mountains/outdoors. Don't look for real paths here, most of them are not well preserved and it will be difficult to follow. The one to Agiofaago is very easy and you wont have a problem. From Agia Galini will not be possible to follow exactly the cost line due to morphology of the area. However, if you are willing to do some trekk over the road then will be fine.
