Post subject: Urgent - Places to climb in Crete 7b+ to 8a
We are currently in Crete staying in Matala and have enjoyed two days climbing in Agiofarago. The routes on sector 18 are great but the unfortunately the bolts on the best looking routes (sectors 1,2 and 4) look very rusty. Can anyone recommend a place to climb with long (30m +) steep routes from 7b+ to 8a that are preferably in the shade for most of the day? We are going to check out Kria Vrisi to day. It looks a good spot but we don't know about the shade. We would also be psyched to check out any new places. We live and equip new routes in Spain and would be keen to return the favour and show people around our local cliffs (Chulilla, Montanejos and Araya). We also met Ioanna (climber from Crete) last summer in Pyli who recommended that we check out Crete but unfortunately we lost her contact details. Thanks, Dave and Rhian

Post subject: Therissos Chania climbing
Hi Dave and Rhian, Shadow doesn't exist in Kria vrisi...however is not that hot in April. A good area to climb high grades is Therissos gorge in Chania. Most of the routes are just near the gorge and are also marked on the bottom with the grade so wont be difficult to find 7a+ routes. There are many many routes above 7a there. www.climbincrete.com |
